ShowsBiography
An award-winning storyteller, playwright, and solo performer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and widely regarded as one of the most respected voices in contemporary American storytelling. Kling gained national recognition with his landmark one-person play 21A, portraying all the riders on a Minneapolis city bus. The piece established his reputation for humor, empathy, and keen observation and led to extensive touring. His audience grew further through appearances on NPR’s All Things Considered. His work includes solo performances as well as numerous full-cast plays produced at theaters nationwide, including the Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Kennedy Center, Seattle Repertory Theatre, Denver Center, Spoleto Festival USA, and Off-Broadway. Born with a congenital disability in his left arm, Kling lost the use of his right arm following a motorcycle accident in 2001. His recovery was documented in the regional Emmy Award–winning PBS film Kevin Kling: Lost & Found. He also shared in a regional Emmy Award for Art + Medicine: Disability, Culture and Creativity.
Through performance, teaching, and community storytelling, he continues to create work that brings people together through shared stories.
